Uganda is commonly known as the pearl of Africa and due to her beautiful geographical features and the ecology others have termed to her as being gifted by nature. Indeed this was a great description of Uganda to a person like me who left my home country and spared timed to have a visit to her (Uganda). Happiness in most cases come as a result of observing what you have never seen but when it has ever been told to you as being so exciting.
I arranged a self drive safari to Uganda in conjunction with 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and mainly with their tour consultant expert who sent me all the requirements that I had to carry with me before coming to Uganda to enjoy a self drive holiday. It was arranged to take due for six days. Among the places I had tour included Lake Mburo national park, Queen Elizabeth and Rwenzori mountain national park.
I reached Uganda in the morning and after attaining my visa at the airport, Moses gave me a Rav4 which i had hired from his company. Since i had booked all the places i was to go to with nature adventure Africa, i never found any inconvenience in my safari. I traveled to Lake Mburo national park which is located in the western Uganda along Masaka – Mbarara road and some of the activities I was to do there include birding and sport fishing.
Since i reached at the park in the afternoon, I had a rest at Mihingo Lodge from there in the evening I went for sport fishing on Lake Mburo located within the park and i found here other colleagues who were also going for fishing and i joined them, we used an engine boat and hooks. What excited me was the Nile perch I caught which weighed 6kgs and in the night i roasted it.
The next day very early morning I went to the shores of the lake to watch birds since this was the ideal time to watch them before they had moved to the different locations in search for food and also to escape the stunning sunshine in favour for shades in the afternoon hours. Among the birds I watched here included the Brown parrot, Red faced barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, White headed barbet and the Green wood hoopoe along the Rubanga forest. I traveled back to Mihingo Lodge where I slept on Full board.
The next day I embarked into my car to Queen Elizabeth National park also in the western Uganda in the district of Kasese. Here I had to visit the Queen’s pavilion and tree climbing lions. Since i reached in the evening, i just went to the Queen’s pavilion which was constructed in 1959 when they were preparing for the queen Elizabeth’s visit by then. In the evening I went back to Hotel Margherita Ltd where i slept.
In the morning, I was taken around the Ishasha region by the park guides which is over 100km extending to the Semliki area. From here I observed the tree climbing lions that were resting up in the branches of the huge trees in a way of seeking for shades during hot temperatures. The skills these lions exhibited to us were so incredible due to their tactics of hiding on top of the trees with an intention of spotting fresh from the moving small animals.
In the evening after this I went to Ruboni Turaco View Camp around Rwenzori mountain national park where I slept as I was waiting for my visit to the park. Activities that I did from here include Cultural encountering and hiking since I was not prepared for mountain climbing due to the fact that it wasn’t in my budget. Very early in the morning, I started hiking along the trail which linked us up with Lake Mahoma up to Buraro chimp forest.
This provided me with an opportunity of seeing the snow capped margherita peak, chameleons, Vervet monkeys, and the squirrels. And on the next day I did cultural encounter with the Bakonzo people who are the main settlers in the Ruboni region around the park. These showed to me their different cuisines, basket weavers, story tellers and dance performances from the Bakonzo culture.
All this relieved stress away from me even though the activity was tiresome, in the evening I went back to Rwenzori View Turaco where I slept and early in the morning I drove my car back to Entebbe airport where I waited for my return back to America. This was a great exposure to happiness and this enhanced my abilities to explore the wonderful unforgettable tour in Uganda on a self drive.
On this matter, for any person to enjoy a self drive safari to Uganda, prior preparations is advisable and also to work with the local tour operators for lodge, ticket and permit reservations plus hiring cars for the safaris, in this case 4×4 Car Hire Uganda is the only car rental service provider which operates in the all of east Africa i can recommend to any person wishing to travel to Africa.
