Planning for gorilla safari in Uganda, you will need to go in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park as the only places for gorilla trekking in Uganda.
Gorilla trekking starts at 08:30am. For you to go for gorilla safaris in Uganda, you will need to have a gorilla permit which is advisable to be bought three month earlier before your tour.
The gorilla permits are bought from Kamwokya (Kampala) the headquarters of the Uganda Wildlife Authority and they are somehow difficulty to get especially individuals from abroad but they are advised to use the tour companies which can help you to purchase the gorilla permits on their behalf though it is advisable to use one of the best tour companies for better services.
Some rules to follow during gorilla safaris?
In any of the gorilla safari parks, you have to follow some rules when you are in the Park and these include; no smoking while you are in the park, be calm, maintain maximum silence, don’t stay with the gorillas for so long (it is only recommended to stay with the gorillas for one hour).
A group of only 8 individuals is allowed to trek gorillas, individuals from 15 years of age are the only ones allowed to do the activity and for toilet manners you will be aided by the Park’s ranger to dig a hole far away from the gorillas and you will have to bury the hole thoroughly well after easing yourself.
Flash light cameras are not allowed to use while taking photos and you are advised to stay at least 5 to 7 meters between you and the gorillas to prevent easy spread of air diseases to gorillas and the fact that they are wild animals.
It is also advisable to come for the gorilla safaris when you are physically fit simply because the activity of gorilla tracking is somehow difficult when walking in thick forests in search of the gorillas.
Where to stay?
When you carry out your gorilla safari in Bwindi impenetrable forests national park, you will live in one of the following lodges; Buhoma lodge, Silver back lodge, Clouds lodge, Engagi lodge, Gorilla valley lodge, Gorilla safari lodge, Gorilla forest camp, Volcanoes Bwindi camp and many others.
And when you decide to go to Mgahinga national park, you will live in Mountain Gahinga national park, Kisoro travelers rest hotel, Amajambere eco camp, Kisoro tourist hotel, Mucha hotel and others.
All the lodges in and around the Park are all in good condition and all include a bar, a restaurant and a swimming pool.
Cost of a gorilla permit?
A gorilla permit in Uganda costs US$ 700 in any of the park you are to carry out your tour.
Location
Bwindi impenetrable forests national park is found in the South western parts of Uganda near the Virunga national park in Congo well as Mgahinga national park is found in Western Uganda.
Uganda is one of the countries in the whole world best for gorilla safaris because it covers half of the World’s Mountain gorillas. Uganda covers over 450 gorillas as compared to the total number of gorillas in the whole World which is 900.
