The Virunga National Park, formerly named Albert National Park, is a 7,800-square-kilometre National Park that stretches from the Virunga Mountains in the south, to the Rwenzori Mountains in the north, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, bordering Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. Founded in 1925, Africa’s oldest national park & home to a quarter of the world’s mountain gorillas.

In Virunga National Park, the good news just keeps on coming. In late February 2018, rangers discovered the 8th new born mountain gorilla in less than two months. This time the birth occurred in the Lulengo family. The mother, Bavanyuma, gave birth to a boy and both are doing marvelously well. Bavanyuma’s other offspring are an adult female named Bagambe and a juvenile named Kighana. Bagambe currently lives with the Rugendo group, which is the result of a past interaction between the two families. The Lulengo family now stands at 10 members.
Although the latest spate of births leads one to believe that mountain gorilla births happen all the time, they typically occur far less frequently. In this family, Maganya was the last to give birth and that occurred in July 2017. Prior to that, one has to go all the way back to 2014 to find a birth in the Lulengo family.
Therefore with all these great news in Virunga National Park now gorilla tours in Congo is becoming much loved by the international tourists, and in Mid 2017 Rwanda increased the gorilla permits from $ 750 – $ 1500 USD per person and the tourism industry seemed to be driving back in negative to tour operators as Rwanda was a most easy region to market. But today tour operators are offering every suitable and affordable discounted 04 Day Congo gorilla & Nyiragongo Trek safari from Rwanda, Kigali International Airport or Uganda and this can be after visiting the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Forest National Park or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and then cross to Democratic Republic of Congo via the Bunagana border. Then from Kigali you cross via the Goma border, and when you book with a tour operator it is much easier to process for you the DRC tourist visa that cost $ 100 USD and valid for 7 days stay in Democratic Republic of Congo.
On you visit to Democratic Republic of Congo you can experience gorilla trek, Nyiragongo hiking tour and also if you have more time you can enjoy the Chimpanzee habituation in Tongo forest, and at the shores of Lake Kivu you can relax with spacious stay at Tchegera Island Tented Camp.
